Hello

Managed to source a A frame and decided to fit..

Was going to upgrade the sump and bumper as I'm fed up of sanding and respraying the sump... (6 years old Urban one so not bad)

Took bumper off and rust is showing on front..behind it, it's just a rust bucket...

So was going to order new but wanted to see what it looked like. So I had a spare bumper (like you do...) sanded sump and quick spray job.

Fitted it all this morning.

First pitch of the season last night on former RAF Beaulieu, now a Forestry England campsite.
Fantastic weather, basic site with no facilities but complete with free ranging ponies with foals and cattle😊

Although not technically in my Defender, a Defender was involved in the transportation - moved my V8 and axles back to HQ after spending the last few months rebuilding it all Very Happy

Managed to finally Dynamat my front doors, took the door cards off yesterday with no breakages, plus carefully took the internal foam pieces off fully intact.

Really pleased to see no corrosion, the Dinitrol internal wax and ACF50 coatings have done their job well especially the lower section where corrosion can set in.

Few things...

Manged to source a A frame with Spots... so took car apart, While at it noticed that bumper and sump rusty again... sanded and sprayed the sump. Fitted a bumper I had.. like you do. After spraying it black..until I decide on a new one.

While apart cleaned and rustproofed where I could.

All fitted, but lights not wired in yet.

Then as I changed most of the front noticed the Defender badge was very worn and discoloured....So

Lunch time I did this...

and added this....

So now the front is all back together and looking (I think) smart Smile

Following on from having my door cards off a week or so ago.
Yesterday I greased all the electric window mechanisms and door lock fitting parts and moving parts internal to the door that you cannot otherwise do with door cards in place.

Smoother electric window operation now, quieter and smoother and the same with the locking system and door handles and all the rest of it.
Surprising what difference it makes and makes the door lock actuators have less of a hard life and the the electric window motors.

It’s not something you have to do very often at all, but I found it worth doing.

more to what other people did in their defender

Cornwall and Devon LRC charity trial was the weekend past. Whilst I left the Defender at home and used the series there was a good turnout

Been continuing my greasing exercise in the areas you wouldn’t normally get to.
Popped the rear door, door card today to have a look at the rear windows wiper mech.
All good, just re-greased a little with lithium grease and the lock mech and system etc.
Not much need really but worth checking and so things don’t get dry and wear.

I noticed this spare plug:

It is not for the rear heated screen as both of those are in use but is a similar connector.
I’m guessing this is a 3rd brake light connector possibly which mine doesn’t have.
It’s just left there behind the door card. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

New Blinker / High beam lever
I’m new here, just got an 89’ Defender 90 and diving right in. It needed a new high beam / blinker lever mechanism as the one that was in was busted. While I had the dash apart I also added LED’s to the instrument gauges .

Fitted a CANM8 cruise control kit.
Works nicely, only spent 11 hours on it too...

Also fitted Optimill removable steering wheel, Raptor glove box, and Optimill security hinges over the last few days.

Clock bulb had stopped working, finally replaced, with a green LED from Charles Emberton, very nice color, needs a torx #20, 4 screws to undo the frame. Ordered interior light led's at the same time and replaced these as well. They are longer than the originals but you can squeeze them in. They are pretty bright and white but keep glowing when in on-when-door-open-mode but doors are shut. I give them a try but might go back to basic.
