Wheel Spacers
Good morning,

I'm thinking of a set of the aforementioned spacers. Haters gonna hate. That's fine. It'd be boring if we all thought exactly the same.

Recently fitted 255/85/R16 BFG Mud Terrains (KM2) & would like them to fill out the arches a bit more. Yup, I'm that shallow. The extra steering lock would be nice too.

I looked into a set of steel Wolf style wheels with an ET0 offset but for a set of 5 wheels followed by getting my tyres swapped over, spacers are better value.

Now, I have researched the pro's and con's and, so far as I can work out, the horror stories are very few and far between.

Fitted correctly, with genuine LR wheel nuts, torqued up to recommended torque, red Threadlock and a dab of paint to provide a visual marker along with periodic check - say 3 months - & I can't envisage a problem.

Have you bought any? If so which did you go for? I've shortlisted Rakeway (expensive option but well made one would think), Optimill (slightly less expensive but provided with genuine LR nuts) or A.N.other I am not aware of yet. Its not a product I want cheap off eBay!

Basically recommendations from those who have them please

Cheers, Paul

I ran Rakeway spacers (the best, in my opinion) for about 100k miles before changing from Boosts to Blindos which rendered the spacers unnecessary, with no issues whatsoever.

Used sensibly there are no problems with spacers, although some insurance companies don't like them.

Terrafirma hub centric spacers on mine. You need to make sure that you replace the drive flange bolts with Cap heads, otherwise the wheels may bind (if you have alloys) and can prevent them seating properly giving you the dreaded death wobble!

I ran Terrafirma spacers for couple of years no issues. Much improved turning circle! James

Many thanks for the replies so far.

No horror stories so far!

I hadn't considered the Terrafirma ones. Something else to add to the list.

I'm currently away from home with work for some time so there is plenty of 'mulling it over' time.

I like the idea of Blindo alloys (Blackwolf) but on an older ex-military 90 feel they'd look wrong. What made you go for the Rakeway ones? They are considerably more costly.

Once again, thanks again for the replies so far.

Weren’t blindos originally made specifically for military defenders ?! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/

Because Rakeway has an impeccable reputation for quality, whereas many of the other suppliers don't. I didn't want any issues, and would rather pay once for quality than many times over for "cheap".

Blackwolf - thanks for the reply. Seems a very sound reason.

Now you've all got me looking at Blindo alloys.... Maybe they would look good.

One thing at a time.

Cheers for your help! Cool

Blindos are undoubtedly the best, but I am biased!

I know they are going to have lots of effects on the handling and so on, but they still look good. And the effects on stability will be complex. I wouldn’t want to say an instant no to them.
