Possible to remove dents from exhaust?
Good afternoon all,

I had a search (here and google) and couldn't find anything other than for motorbikes, which have more accessible/smaller exhausts that are easier to handle.

I'm in the process of looking at another 110 (2.2TDCI Puma) to convert into a camper and whilst I really like the vehicle generally, its got two dents on the exhaust, one on the front section and one the mid.

My question is, is it possible to remove dents from exhausts or is it a full new exhaust job? There is obviously a cost differential between the two options, I suspect, having looked at exhaust costs for, in particular, the front section.

I would consider replacing, I know it’s not cheap but at least then will be done long term.

As it is, I’d say you won’t get much more life out of it if you tried a repair, and I would have thought it’d need to be tack welded and pulled and in the process you will get a rust spot and in next to no time you’ll end up with a hole in it.

You maybe able to use a sleeved straight section, if you go for a cat back system for now.

As usual obviously a compete replacement is best but costly. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

The dents are not worth bothering about since they won't affect the operation of the vehicle. The state of the flange on the rear pipe suggests you'll be needing a new exhaust soon anyway, although if you're lucky the front section (with DPF/Cat) won't need replacing. The dent on the cross-pipe won't be an issue.

There appears to be a lot of rust and plenty of oil leakage on the vehicle, and I would be more concerned about this than some minor dings on the exhaust.

I would imagine repair would cost more than replacement. I’ve got straight through pipes on my puma and there is no noise difference in the cab, the DPF does all the necessary muffling.
