Hello folks,
I've noticed in the past that it becomes harder to push the lock in on my steering lock when the weather is cold and the last few days were no different. However, yesterday I also struggled to get the lock to release again, which was something of a concern as I was in a public car park in Guildford! As a consequence, I'm reluctant to refit it at the moment. I'm presuming that it's a tolerance issue in the mechanism but there's no obvious way to adjust or dismantle it. Has anybody else come across this or can offer any pointers? Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Yes, the boss lock. Is there any other? No, I haven't tried anything as yet. I did contemplate some graphite powder but other than directly into the lock, it's not really obvious where would be best to apply it. That's why I thought I'd try here first, to be honest. Darren

No, not yet - it only happened yesterday afternoon. I'll have to give them a try next week. Darren

When mine came it had a thin film of oil on the shaft, perhaps a bit of something like olive oil or a similar might stop it…..
Must admit it was cold yesterday morning but it worked fine. Series I 86" Petrol orig side valve (daily hack) VW Tiguan ( bit bland but very comfy ) Porsche 997.2 790 Bonnie |

This is my second full winter with mine and not had any issues with the cold, even when windscreen etc well frozen.
My boss lock got less and less easy to slip on with time, so popped some graphite powder in the three holes in the boss lock and it made a big improvement. Recently noticed the pin that I normally use to line up the holes and the pins (ie press my finger against) is showing signs of corrosion so will be putting a dab of something on there at some point. |

Just realised that I never closed this one out.
Closer inspection showed a burr on the top of the central pin, which I think was catching on the edge of the side pin with the 45 degree point on the end. I don't know whether it's always been there or has developed over time through use but the chances are that because of the way I mount and lock it, the two pins meet at the same spot every time. It's a ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge My solution was to file a chamfer on the edge of the central pin. Again, bloomin' awkward because of its location but I persevered and ended up with this: ![]() Click image to enlarge I also added some graphite powder, which seemed to go everywhere and is why the picture is so speckaldy! Anyway, it now locks and unlocks smoothly and easily, which is nice ![]() 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing?
