The thin side goes next to the bulkhead and when the bonnet is closed rotates towards the engine.

Ive just noticed you have a rubber seal across the bonnet/bulkhead .Is that standard for older defenders as my puma doesn't have one? ......... bloody good idea as mine gets full of sh*t!and its a rust trap! Anybody done this on their pumas?.Or alternatively is it standard and LR just forgot to put it on mine?

Do a search on eBay for Saab 900 bonnet seal. I took it off an old 900 and it fits perfectly, stops rattle, and reduces noise and it keeps Censored out! I also installed a self adhesive “D” seal on the bonnet edge to keep more Censored out from the sides and front. Rolling with laughter

Second recommendation for a bonnet/bulkhead seal here, l used self adhesive D-seal and it made a noticeable reduction to noise levels particularly when the vent flaps are open.

Procta, it does keep a lot of Censored outa the engine bay, especially when on the trails. I have never had a leaks into the floors even before I installed these seals. Thumbs Up 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Another Thumbs Up for the adhesive D strip.

I added a double length to each side of the bonnet.

I also had a ‘factory fitted’ seal on the bonnet against the bulkhead.

Not sure it does very much, and doesn’t look as effective as the Saab 900 version, but I added a D seal to that also.

Does it make any difference?

Well as Defender owners we can probably all be prone to a little of the Placebo Effect.

I think it’s quieter…

It is defo quieter. I measured db before and after and it was 4db drop. You really notice it when you open the vents. No diesel clatter. Thumbs Up 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Thumbs Up

Yes the noise when the vents are open is definitely quieter.

Looks neater too.

Can now hear the wife clearly…
