Cannot lock my car...
Hello

Puma 110

My car is in a Garage at the back of the house, its been there not used for a few months with steering lock, pedal lock but not locked..

About a month ago I changed the battery in the car.

Just took it out for a run round the lanes. when I go to lock the car. Press the lock and it locks and the indicators flash. then a second or so later the locks unlock and the horn sounds...

I did do some searches and have just asked on a Facebook group I am on.

Seems to be either the doors are not shut properly or the bonnet plunger.

I've just been out and messed about with the locks and the bonnet plunger but still no luck. Does just the same? I've slammed the doors to make sure.

Any advice what I can do? its a bit loud to keep trying unless I'm quick with the fob to turn the horn off.

I guess this is the plunger? do these fail?

Normally the bracket gets bent when engine bay work has been done so the plunger doesn’t contact the bonnet properly, but as yours hasn’t been opened it shouldn’t be that.

Had the same problem a while ago, sought advice on here and it turned out to be the drivers door actuator.
Buy an OEM not the cheaper alternative - don't ask me how I know Thumbs Up Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Have you tried some lubricant or wd40 on the actuators as they maybe stuck, usually if the car is unlocked then tries to lock it will send a signal back saying one the actuators can't lock so the full car won't lock - sort of a open/closed relay circuit - all actuators will need to lock to complete the circuit.

I will try wd40 first Wink

If its the bonnet plunger or drivers door lock how can I tell? Can I unplug the bonnet one and will it still lock? So at least I can narrow it down... assuming wd40 does nor work.

Thanks

Not sure on the plunger - but if you pop your door card off to get to the actuator - if its been sat especially in warm weather it could have dried/seized up. Hopefully be an easy fix.
Just check your door push button and lock mechanisms in the door are locking and grabbing the door striker also.

As a test, put a cable tie or similar around the bonnet plunger and see if it locks. If it does, you've found your culprit and have a temporary solution.

My money would be on the door mechanism though - the latch and various links to the actuator. Any resistance in the movement of these parts and the actuator won't complete its travel but instead bounce back open in the way that you've described. The grease used originally on these parts has a habit of hardening over time. Apply your lubricant or grease of choice and give it a go. Darren

Thanks all Smile

I did try first pushing the bonnet plunger down as I locked car... no luck still unlocked

I then sprayed wd40 in the locks, down the door pin etc... Still unlocked

So door card off, used a small screwdriver to access inside the little rubber boot from acculator and sprayed wd40.

Result.... it worked 💪

Thanks all Smile
