Hi all,
As per the title, is there a general favourite oil used for the rear dif? I have tried a search on here but cannot find a recent definitive answer. Its for a 2.4 90HT. I am leaning towards this one? Motul Gear 300 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Car Gearbox & Diff Oil https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-899-motul-gea...Case%20Oil Many thanks in advance. |

I use Castrol Axle 'EPX' for the Diffs..
i would say most diff oils from a decent manufacturer will perform well in normal use. So the best way to care for diffs is to fit magnetic drain plugs as they are not expensive, check breathers are free and levels are maintained, check after going through deep water (for water ingress) and do regular oil changes rather than going for the most expensive diff oil. Sticky on gearbox engine and diff oils for 2.4 and 2.2 https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic8707.html |

I am in a bit of a quandry.. my 2011 Puma calls for synthetic oils in Diff and TC, but i have Ashlocker and ATB's in mine. Ashcroft recommend mineral oils.
So, what is the best and safest mineral oil to use in the axles and TC? I have heard of GL5 causing issues in older designs? Nige Check out my You Tube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/Defender90KeswickNigelsLandRoverchannel |

I think you can use either, but with slightly different consistencies. From their website: “ either mineral EP80/90 or synthetic EP75W90”.
