Optimill Rear Camera: Show me the view!
I’m thinking about a reversing camera and like the discreet Optimill one that acts as a number plate night. What’s the view like? I don’t need to hook up a trailer, but do need to part pretty tight to a wall without crashing!

Cheers

Not really an optimill, but very discreetly installed under the rear plate spacer, and at a fraction of the cost.

When reversing into tight spaces, I use the tow ball as my reference.
And it work really well in the dark too.

Defender Rear Ladder with Optimill number plate light/integr
Just a word of warning, I love the Optimill camera and view is now excellent, though I had to replace my full length Flatdog ladder with a 2 piece one to avoid the view being obscured by one of the rungs Whistle 2011 2.4 White 110 CSW LHD

Hello, which ladder do you have? I have the same issue and wondered whether there was an alternative ladder so that I can use the rear camera?

Flatdog 'short' rear ladder not full length

This is the one that is compatible with my optimill rear view camera as opposed to the 'full length' version by the same manufacturer Very Happy 2011 2.4 White 110 CSW LHD

Ive just fitted the optimil unit and whilst im still working out the distances I woulnd still not trust for close up parking because of its offset position and the skewed view at close quarters. If i get time i will do a proper marking out of the image to see how acurate it is ..its fine if you just want to make sure there is nobody behind you if you reverse and you use your mirrors to do most of the work when parking.
I used the Mud package .optomil and JVC head unit ..the JVC head unit is small but adequate except for annoying banner stating use your eyes to check that flashes every three seconds or so ..if i had known that i would not have purchased the jvc head unit Big Cry If anybody has a fix it would be most appreciated!

I have the same set up, Optimill reverse camera and JVC head unit and agree completely with Nitram17, although you do soon get used to the offset position. I have the spare wheel slightly in view to help gauge the position but in all honesty I do only use the reverse camera to check for rouge kids and dogs loitering behind, out of view.

I had originally mounted a reverse camera beneath the number plate light plinth but changed to the optimill for a neater solution. Hope the image helps.

Nitram17, I’d never really noticed the ‘check surroundings before backing up’ script until you mentioned it although it’s there all the time on mine, it doesn’t flash

The jvc unit is only three inches so the banner takes up a greater part of the screen as the lettering has to be legible so that's why it flashes as it does interfere with the view when its on the screen and i don't think anybody would put up with it if it was there permanently.
