England 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zermatt Silver
If it’s weaker it can’t be by much I’ve owned 2 TD5 defenders and one TD5 disco two with Alive remap and one with a JE engineering map and never had any issues with halfshafts/CVs tons of problems with the disco wheel bearings but no halfshaft issues. Secondly a Puma halfshaft and CV combined is £350 a TD5 halfshaft and CV joint cost me £60. Also when on the continent I haven’t got to worry about waiting for a “specialist bit” I’m sure I will be able to source a tdi/TD5 bit a lot easier.

I can now carry round a £30 CV joint in my spares wolf box and not have to worry if I do break a CV. I can do it remotely.

Will be doing the same the other side when I get the time

Is there a solution for Puma CVs? My chums truck is looking like it might need them doing.

Yes, use TDCi / Puma parts.

Yes, they are expensive but it’s a job you do once in donkeys years and are designed for the model and purpose required.

As mentioned before Pumas are higher torque through the drivetrain and via gearing and as such was updated to suit.

Personally I’d be looking at genuine or Ashcroft, the latter being really really good.
The downside is indeed the price, but buy cheap and you can pay twice and unless you are really adept at home fitting then Labour fees could end up every more.
Not to mention the inconvenience and other issues you could have by the downtime of it being off the road.

With Britpart you’d have to play close attention to quality and longevity, one piece halfshafts on the rear are known to be fairly decent so some people have said. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

I have just had my 2012 110 110k returned from the LR dealer. New CV and half shaft replaced on the front right side. This was after i had an on road failure and loss of drive. I was told the small half shaft and CV are one piece and required to be purchased together and the longer left hand side is 2 separate parts, ie: CV and half shaft can be replaced separately. Cost..... £1100 for genuine parts and labour.
Back to driving normal, however the passenger side must now be in question and I should be doing asap. Also, the front diff must be looking to cause issues soon. £1000 per corner and £2000 for an Ashcroft diff that's roughly 4k. Jeeeeesh how much is a complete new front axle then?

A complete genuine new axle, if such a thing is available? At least twice that, I am sure.

Then you'd have to worry about the ends breaking off!
