I get lots of people coming up and chatting about my DC, usually positive. Many 'if you ever want to sell it.....' offers as well. The thing I do find odd is if I'm parked up and still in the driver's seat and someone comes and takes a full front-on photo with me clearly behind the wheel. Shocked
And a couple of weeks ago I saw someone run across our little park and lean over the gates to take some photos as I drove past. He must have been sixty if a day.

But if you think any of that's annoying, trying being a Guardsman in full ceremonial (bearskin, tunic, sword etc) wandering across Green Park between Buck House and Jimmy's on your tod. Tourists sprinting from all directions just to walk beside you or take a photo face on. I even watched a limo pull a u-turn on the Mall before disgorging its contents of Americans for a complete ambush. Big Cry Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Presume this is your first ever Defender?

It is.

The other day, 10 mins into a walk in some woods, someone came up to me and asked how I liked the Defender. I clearly looked confused and he said "It was you I saw getting out of a Defender, wasn't it?"

And, again, he proceeded to give me his opinion on it about how he much prefers the classic Defender etc. Like I care...

Imagine what it's like being famous. Must be unbearable. Standing in a lift and someone saying "Aren't you that actor?" and then proceeding to tell you how they like other actors more than you and how they didn't think that film was as good as the original.

You’d prefer to moan at a forum of Defender enthusiasts, about people being enthusiastic about your Defender?

Hilarious.

Laughing You wanna try a zebra striped 130 as your daily drive! I never get out of a petrol station or a car park without at least 1 discussion or kids waving or people taking pictures as they drive past....

As the new ones become more numerous, people will get bored of bothering you.

The old timers however Whistle

Welcome to a brand with iconic status.

You may own that particular vehicle, but many, many people "own" the brand, as in make it theirs, and to an extent weave it into being a part of their life.

It's actually what JLR play on in terms of trying to sell more vehicles, so it's less than surprising that so many people feel able and comfortable to share their views so easily.

I think you are missing the point - we all come on here to actively discuss each other's defenders and offer opinions and / or advice. Rolling Eyes

It won't last then you'll have just another big SUV as such. I had this with my R50 Mini back in 2003 when I got it, hardly any on the road and the experts coming out of the woodwork to inform me of their views on 1 BMW, 2 it not being a real mini 3 it will never be a real mini etc, thankfully most people were curious and interested, proof in the pudding that I still own it 18 years later.

One of the great things about Defender ownership is positive enthusiasm you get from other people. Don’t wish that away. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
