Anyone roaming around the various threads generally reading up
about a Quick Release Steering Wheel Boss and wondering if it's
either worth the money / the effort to change / the security benefit...
or all of the above, please read on.

I would recommend that you get your hands on a good example and then
just find a reason that makes sense to you to fit this to your Defender.

I have a good friend who has the Optimill offering + lockable 'cap'
all doing its best to secure a Twisted 110 that you really wouldn't
want to loose... it's an excellent bit of kit and I would not hesitate
to fit one if starting again.

I have the Snap-Off Boss which was fitted during my first week of ownership,
so coming up to 5 years now, 40K miles later, No play what so ever, probably
2-3 seconds to remove the steering wheel and store or to reengaged...
FANTASTIC... Thumbs Up

For me, one of many layers overall, but it's right up there in my top 3 of would
not be without security layers / products, and definitely my top visual + mechanical layer.

I genuinely don't understand why I don't see more Quick Release Steering Wheels
fitted to Defenders... Shocked
(I know that sounds a little 'preachy' so please don't give me a hard time Wink )

Good Luck...

Hi x4 did you block up the holes on your snap of boss?

Is it suitable for road use or is having one on a road car an automatic MOT failure?

I'm afraid this wasn't the case for me. I contacted Kath at Optimill with a view to trying to purchase an additional boss (ie the bit that the steering wheel attaches to) as I have 2 steering wheels which I'd like to swap at will but they are unable to supply just the boss.

I can see why but its still a shame.

Despite this the quality is excellent, the customer service is excellent and the whole kit with the swivel lock is fantastic. I'll echo the thoughts about the pins being silver but I have sprayed mine black, following on from Darrens thread (LandRoverAnorak) & this has finished the kit off a treat

Same here - I can't remember when I first fitted mine, but it's been through at least 2 or 3 MOTs without any comment at all. Donald
