Well spotted Warren, it was in the showroom for four years and has the appropriate build-up of polish to prove it.

I asked them where it had disappeared to when they had the showroom refurbished. Said that Land Rover weren't too happy about them having it in the showroom, as they just wanted the current models in there, so it was in storage, but were hoping to be able to put it back at some point.
Bit of a shame really, you'd think they'd be proud to show off where it all began... At least it's gone to a good home though ![]() |

Thanks MOG and Warren - it does have a good home.
It does sadden me that Land Rover are not a little prouder of their history. If it was up to me every dealership would have series vehicles on display, and new sales-persons would be sent out on a trans-european trip in them, and those that did not enjoy themselves would be immediately sacked. Every time I took my Defender to the dealers under warranty I was asked to fill in a feedback form in which I gave these views, and fair play to them, the main Land Rover customer support team did contact me to insist that they were passionate about their history. I know it's not commercially viable, but I'd like to see Defenders in their own showrooms surrounded by Land Rovers of the past, with giant plasma screens showing looped footage of Maurice Wilks driving around Red Wharf Bay. I'd have my wallet out to buy one before I even got to the counter! Peter 2008 SWB Truck Cab 1952 80" Soft top |

Thats a great idea. There is the Heritage collection where you can (or certainly could) drive various older models off-road, including an 80". I would have thought each dealer could have space and fund a series vehicle of some kind to be done up nice and tidy as a display piece. I know rocar moores at Huddersfield used to have a series 1 outside with wrecker crane in, and Hunters (?) in Derby had a series 1 inside as well that one of the technicians had done up. But with the DC100 I do see the company trying desperately to sever any links with its past, and it makes me very sad indeed. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Was the last time I was in there a few months ago. They did it themselves IIRC. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
