It would die now wouldn't it
Basically shes not charging. If I turn everything off I get 13.4v on the radio and the dash volt meter is showing a very slight charge but the second I start turning essentials on like lights, wipers it drops down sometimes to 10v and deep into the discharge. Its not the battery as Halfords have supplied a new one FOC due to the old one having half its cranking amps within its warranty period. Looking at it, I'm going to give it its dues because its the original fitted in 1991 and I hate to think how many million revolutions it has done. Click image to enlarge I do have an uprated one new in box which would boost it to 100A but I have turned away from using it as I just don't see the need for the extra amps given what I use and want to keep it standard. All good, but everywhere that has one for a reasonable price is closed and wont be re-opening until the new year. What a pain. Well this is frustrating.
I ordered a new alternator a while ago and it finally arrived yesterday. Click image to enlarge Its the wrong one I ordered STC229 which is the standard 200tdi 45A Alternator and received STC233G which is the optional uprated 65A one for vehicles fitted with air con or special vehicles conversions. Now after reading up a bit, I understand that the wiring loom is the same, the difference is the plug. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So, do I change the plug and run it as is, or do I return it and ask them to send me the correct one? Any electrical Gurus who can shed some light Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Many thanks guys.
I hate electrics and electrical work. Will gather tools and consumables get onto it. What makes this all so frustrating is all the bits I need are at my parents so I have to now go buy new ones rather than risk infecting them and all because they sent the wrong blooming one!
