Should it light up

Hi.

I have a td9 90 my2000.

Should the lights on the panel that holds the hazard, rear fog and rear window demister light up when the headlights are turned on?

Probably best if you can see the switches in dark.

Easies way to find out is to look behind the panel to see if there any bulbs and wiring.

The switches should be backlit in greenish white except for the hazard switch triangle which should be orange/red. These are filament lamps so don't last forever but can be replaced when they die.

The OP is referring to the small panel down to the right hand side of the steering column on pre-2002 dashboard.

I don’t think these switches are supposed to be backlit. The hazard switch lights up when in operation.

I had a 300tdi with the similar switch arrangement as early td5s, I dont think they are backlit as said above, I think the only difference was that the heater controls were illuminated on td5s.

Ok. Really couldn’t remember when I drove in the dark last time if they were backlit. Thanks for the responses

2000 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Epsom Green

Mine have never lit up unless they were turned on. I ended up converting my switches to back lit by disassembling and reassembling combined switches using old hazard switches.
