2.4 Puma. Lazy starter?
My 2.4 started playing up a couple of weeks ago. At first I thought it was the battery on its way out. A few days ago it got progressively worse. The engine would crank over for a second or two, then stop as if the battery had flattened. Switch ignition off, try again and it would start fine. Yesterday I had to do 3 - 4 times before it would start. Today, after the same 3 - 4 times this morning, it won't turn over at all.
I've fitted a new battery (didn't make any difference)and checked the wires running to the starter.
Any suggestion before I pull off the starter motor?
Thanks,
DG

Mine did exactly that. Starter motor was tired and gave up completely not long after.

Mine's been doing that randomly and intermittently for the last ten years. Sometimes you turn the key and it is really flat-battery-sluggish, try again and it cranks normally. I've been carrying a spare starter motor under that rear seat just in case I need to carry out a roadside swap for ten years!
