What rims have I got?!
Recently bought a 2a which came with horrible 8 spoke wheels. Managed to acquire some steels from eBay but having collected them have to confess I’m not sure what they are! They are 6” wide edge to edge, or 5” internal, and 16” diameter. There is one logo stamped on them (photo below) and two numbers 106363, and 10/54 (a date stamp perhaps?). Can anyone tell me what they are and more importantly what size tyres they’ll take?! Thanks!

Most Land Rover rims will have a part number stamped on them.

As for sizes, depends what you are wanting to do really.

Series rims are 5.5" wide (in terms of bead area). They can fit 7.50 x 16's tyres and smaller. Most tyre makers will suggest a 6.0"j rim for a 235/85R16. So you'd need a 90/Defender rim for this size.

Many Series rims are also tubed rims. Which means it is dangerous and illegal to run a tyre without a tube in it. You can ID this on if there is an extra bulge or not on the bead area of the rim.

The ones shown have the rim riveted to the centre, so they are tube type.

Traditionally rims for SWB models were 5" whilst those for LWB were 5.5" I think. SWBs had 6.00x16 tyres whilst LWBs had 7.50x16 tyres.

Wheel rim width is measured inside of the two rims so if you've measured what I think you've measured, you have some standard SWB wheels. As v8bob says, they're for tubed tyres.



Some very early models had 4.5 inch wide rims but they're really not very common. Darren

Thanks for all the responses. I posted the same question on the S2 forum and the consensus there seems to be that they are Kelsey Hayes wheels, and most likely for a trailer or other lighter vehicle. Given that and the fact they're for tubes means I probably won't use them on my car, so if anyone wants them and can collect from Haslemere, Surrey, they're free to a good home!

tbh the easiest way for Land rover 'looking' rims. Is to buy some for a 90/Defender. They will fit straight on, are wide enough for a 235/85 and are tubeless. Should also be easy and cheap to pick up.

I didn't mention them in my post because they are so rare and collectible (like the original pattern of 543384 or genuine 569203 rims)! Or genuine S1 split rims, for that matter.

Thanks, that's what I'm aiming to do - just these were cheap and local so thought they might be worth a punt!

No they aren't. Standard Defender rims are only 5.5" wide, suitable for sizes upto 7.50R16. 235/85R16 will require wider rims such as wolf rims or alloys. 2011 110 USW
