Hire a car for a couple of months
Right you clever lot, what is the best (read most cost effective) way to hire a car for a month or two? I’m in the awkward situation of the 90 leaking a lot and going to the menders, the RR having a hissy fit re ABS and Traction control, and needing to do lots of miles over the next month or two. I’ve not got the time over the next few days to get them sorted out. Today I’ve driven to London in a 1999 SLK which evidently has no padding in the seat and definitely isn’t designed for my frame.

I’d like a VW Golf ideally. Any suggestions where to go and where to avoid greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have used Enterprise a lot in the past.
However I find there pricing policy goes up and up the closer to the time you want the vehicle.
For instance today I wanted a van for next Tuesday -Thursday, £249.00
If I want it for the following week £169.00.
So I hired else where for £150.00 for next Tuesday.
They are a good company, but you need to talk to the sales people and not pay the price you see on line if in a hurry.
Shop around, some of the less advertised companies will be more than happy to offer a deal.

Also look at the insurance they offer, some have £1200.00 claim penalties if you don’t take out the much higher price.

Thanks chaps. I was doing some googling and there were prices from £22 a day to £2k for two months. I think you are right re having some off system dialogue with the various companies.

Cheers,

Exactly that, hence the question really. It just seemed like a crazy £ for a couple of months.

Try Northgate in Banbury - we’ve had various vehicles from them for seasonal / short term hire and they are pretty sensible folks...

I just had a similar situation with my 90 away for repainting and the 110 build delayed. Rental car companies are one option but I ended up going via a lease company (Cocoon vehicles) who set up a one month lease on an Audi Q7. Pros- there's a lot of cars out there and certain models are in surplus. Cons- a bit more paperwork hoops to go through to get it set up, but worked out better for me over renting a similar sized car for a month.

I've used Holiday Autos regularly and they have always been good value, especially off-season when fewer people are 'holidaying'. It worked out cheapest to take a car for a week each time and renew rather than booking it for say 6 weeks in one go and their prices were always lower than going direct to one of the normal firms. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Been mentioned already, but I would buy, use, then re sell it,
Even IF you lose a little it may still be cheaper than hiring ?
