Leak under rear passenger door

Hi - can anyone help identify the cause of this leak under the rear seat on the offside a 110 puma?

I was about to say that the rear passenger doors always leak (I can see the road surface from the back seat in mine) but then I found the photo in your gallery!

I would suggest that you dip a finger in the gunge and sniff it - it is likely that it is a fuel leak since the fuel filter and fuel lines are in that area. If it smells like diesel fuel, check your fuel lines for wetness. If it smells like engine oil or gear oil, it was probably there before you parked up.

Thanks - I’ve just taken a better picture which I think confirms your diagnosis of fuel filter.

I assume I can drive it but would welcome correction - I am a novice.

When you say "drive it" do you means drive it to a garage or do you mean drive it for months until you get round to fixing it?

I would say that driving it to a garage is probably OK, but if it was mine I would take the cover off the filter to see where the leak is coming from first. Diesel leaks on the road can kill (for an example look at the "RIP Ladybird Defender" thread), especially motorcyclists, so are not to be treated lightly.

I would certainly not be driving it routinely without knowing why it is leaking. If one of the spigots on the filter head has cracked then you may conk out altogether, quite apart from the risk of the leak getting worse.

I meant 10 miles to the garage. I wouldn’t have a clue how to diagnose the extent of the problem but your point about safety is a very good and a helpful reminder - thank you.
