The 050 one is for TD5 era vehicles whilst the 290 one is for post '07 vehicles. I wouldn't have imagined that there would have been that much difference to be honest, but it does appear that you've fitted the wrong ones. Darren

Due to the fact that the earlier unit comes compressed and stays compressed, can we assume this is oil?
The later ones come extended and, I assume like the originals, extend themselves when not under compression. Does this mean they are gas? Still can't find any comparative specs although the later ones come with 3 nuts instead of two which is interesting! All of them have oil. Some have std P air and others pressurised N (plus some air). Puma 110" SW

TBH I cannot understand how Defenders came out of the factory with "std oil shocks" for decades and suddenly, gas charged dampers is the way to go. Even today, the best dampers for heavily loaded Defenders are Koni Raid without N pressure. Puma 110" SW

I have Koni HT adjustable shocks on the rear. I always thought they were gas filled but you've got me thinking now... Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Hi all, new shocks have arrived.
