At the moment I drive a Discovery TD5.

Getting a cheap discovery td5 is straight forward but what would I need to do to bring a Defenddr up to TD5

lots of work to do it right cheaper to buy a td5 90.

for starters a td5 wiring loom and fuel pipes and fuel tank and cradle for the same plus lots more.

plenty of build threads on the web which cover it in more detail

Well thats not quite true.

Conversions start at around £1800.

Need a loom, fuel pump (Bosch 044), deimobbed ecu and a dressed engine. Instagram @defender_ventures

If you do decide to go a head, I would look at one that's been done in person if possible and talk to the owner. from my experience from engine conversions, I would take some internet info a pinch of salt, They may have you doing stuff that you dont need to do so.
