Lovely work Clayton Bow down I've never seen a thatched wall capping before, seems very luxurious! But does look very nice! James

Thank you Pete for your interest in the thread. I do try to keep the thread going but don't want to keep repeating with the same type of work that is being done Wink 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

So a different job, more to it than normal.
I would like your views/comments as i'm sort of bringing this " live " or would you prefer the " all " in one hit Question

Instead of having all the before and after pics, this job that were on now will come to you as were progressing on with the job, it should take no more than two weeks. This is a re-ridging job, but should have been done at least 2-3 years earlier Rolling Eyes

We started the job yesterday. The roof elevations both sides had wire netting on to prevent the birds/seagulls attacking it and most of the day was spent by me taking it all off. In the mean time my mate, that's him going up the ladder, started on the back once i had got all the wire off and he started dressing the roof, you can't see it to clearly but you will see a difference with the front pic's when took Thumbs Up

I made a start on the front getting all the moss off once i had got all the wire netting off, so it's easier to dress the roof, end of day one Very Happy

Today my mate carried on dressing the back elevation while i finished getting the moss off the front and i stripped off what was left of the old ridge on both sides of the roof

As the main fixings were shot, due to wood worm, i had to put a new fixing line across the full length of the roof and as the ridge rolls are shot, they will be coming off and new ones put on . . .

Sorted/cleaned off and with the new fixing line on

When i had managed all of that, i loaded up our trailer with all the old ridge thatch and all of the moss, i had a good load on and dropped the trailer off at our store on my way home from work Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Looking forward to this Clayton Thumbs Up

Do you have a good supplier for chicken wire? Most netting I have been looking at (not for roof work Laughing ) seems nowhere like the same quality as older pieces I have. How long does the netting last up on a roof?

Many thanks Rashers Thumbs Up

As you say the older netting is better but we have a good supplier which supply to some big retailers, as for the length of time it lasts, that is up to the unpredictable weather but if you live on the coast, the netting doesn't last to long Sad 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Sad you don't have the odd one or two thatched places around Sad

This particular roof we rethatched both sides in 2003 and then re-ridged it in 2011 we have looked at the roof from time to time as the owner gives us a call to see if the problem they have found is anything serious Thumbs Up

Down here a ridge will only last about 8-10 years as the humidity is high Rolling Eyes

After we have put the new ridge on, it should last another 8-10 years and then it will need to be rethatched again both sides Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Enjoying reading this Clayton, some real skill here.

I'm in construction myself but it's nothing like this, a lot of flat roofs etc for what we build.

Keep up the good work Thumbs Up Alex
