What type of paint is used on TD5 ?
My 2003 TD5 CSW needs a bit of bodywork sorting out. and will need some respraying. Now I have plenty of time on my hands, and have the basic equipment to spray, in need to know what paint system is used.

It’s a CSW in a lovely deep shiny Oslo blue. It’s obviously got a clear coat on top because it’s peeled on one of the wing tops.

I’ve done loads of coach enamel spraying on my Series, but never tackled a modern vehicle other than with touch up rattle cans. This needs a bit more than that. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Water-based acrylic polyurethane as the base followed by 1k or 2k clearcoat. Or you could get the paint supplier to mix a solid colour which will gloss straight out of the gun and will not need a clear coat. I tend to use solid colour these days (unless its Metalic paint)as its a lot less hassle.) For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

As said either a water or solvent based base coat followed by a 2 pack clear coat.
2 pack clears require the user to wear an air fed respirator as they contain isocyanates.

As said a mask is imperative. However, as you will not be spraying every day you could use a good carbon-filled mask and spray outside or in a garage with plenty of ventilation. Also, wear goggles as you do not want isocyanates. in your eyes For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

You could also test a small sample of paint to see if you can get away with Celly the easiest paint to spray high gloss and drys in seconds, and is non-cancerous, make a mistake and just sand down within minutes or if you get a paint reaction with celly on your original paint you could spray a water-based barrier coat and use celly on top of that. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Rolling with laughter Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Hmmm ok, I think it might have to go to a pro. Don’t like the sound of the clear coat poisoning me. I have a decent mask but it’s not air fed. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

You can get single pack acrylic clearcoat which is less toxic. I'm going to be spraying some in my garage this week. Should still use a decent mask though. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

1k clear coat is Ok but it needs heat applied for it to cure otherwise it takes an age to fully harden.

Do not be put off having a go yourself the chance of catching cancer by spraying a few LR panels wearing a good mask is incredibly low. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

All valid points above, but bare in mind nothing will give the durability or quality of the 2 pack systems.
