You will need to drill 2 holes just above the air intake grille Andy

Thanks Andy, do you think drilling holes in the metalwork devalues the vehicle

Maybe but when I sold my D3 I removed the snorkel and filled and painted over the holes. You couldn't tell anything had been there. Andy

When there's just a couple of holes left after removing a piece of kit I find it better to simply plug them with stainless steel, cup-head screws rather than try to cover them completely. Let's face it, it's a Defender with exposed rivets and everything so a couple of extra shiny screws won't make a difference. 2007 Defender 110 1970 Alfa Romeo 1750GTV |

Just got my Mantec kit today, the instructions are useless
Most if it is fairly obvious but not sure about how to fix the mounting bracket to the windscreen pillar, the kit includes 10mm bolts which it claims are self-tapping, not sure though as they have blunt ends rather then pointed, guess it's a case of drill the hole and hope for the best |

The bolts/screws do seft-tap in OK, just make sure you drill the correct size holes |

So are these a DIY job or do I need some special tool for the captive nuts that go in the wing above the vent?

I will bring my rive nut tool to Yarwell we can fit them then. You drill the holes before you leave. |

Fitted Mantec plastic Snorkel yesterday.
Handy fit - Thanks Andrew for details photos. I didn't have a Rivenut gun - But bolted it thru the wing instead. If you remove the plastic cover on top of the wing its easy enough get some lock nuts on. Its a good job that new snorkle, no vibration and does not obstruct your view thru windscreen as some others do. |
