Mending watches
Random question for the fountain of collective knowledge that is you lot...

I’ve a Seiko kinetic watch (5M62 0A-K0) which I was given as a Fathers Day present about 15 years ago so I want to keep it. The capacitor/battery needs replacement and the crystal needs replacement too as it’s cracked. It’s kind of a divers watch and rated to 100 metres water resistance. I’ve read somewhere that the gasket should be replaced too and lubricated with silicant sealant.

Anyone know what sealant and if that’s true?

Bow down

Not sure if this will help much, but the O rings in diving kit (torches, computer batteries, inflator valves etc) is usually given a smear of silicon grease to help keep the water out. I assume watches would work on the same principle.

The only time I'm aware of any non-standard silicone grease being used is if the kit concerned is in Oxygen service, i.e. exposed to high concentrations of O2 - then an alternative is used. Can't see this being an issue with a watch. Donald
