Unbolting seat sub-frame from runners
So, new seats arrived today and I thought they would be a simply DIY swap in minutes tonight, even for a spannering imbecile but clearly not, so:

I gather from Googling that the fixings between sub-frame and runners are M8 x 35 raised head countersunk bolts but what tool do I use to get them out (preferably without damaging, as they are they are unmarked) - folk talk about impact drivers (as they will be securely lock-tighted in) which I don't have, but I'm also not sure how you would access the rear one Rolling Eyes

Advice sincerely appreciated, thanks.

Numpty! Rob

Hey, shame nobody has given you a definitive answer, but happy to pitch in with some generic info. Never done this job in the Defender but have done it in a few different makes.

Not sure what type of bolt you are referring to, but does it have an Allen key head? You shouldn't necessarily need an impact driver, but may need an Allen key socket and something like a wobble drive extension if access is limited. If loctited in then better go for a 3/8ths or 1/2 inch drive rather than 1/4 inch to be sure and just go steady. Once a bolt is cracked it should go quite easy. Make sure you wire brush all the old dry loctite off before refitting, and be gentle and rethread by hand to start with. Not sure if all the bolts are the same length, so pay attention where you take each one out from, and make a note of any washers, shims, etc and their location.

Really appreciate the reply. It's actually a cross head which I believe to be Pozidrive, so have today acquired one of these from Halfords which I hope will do the job in my 3/8ths drive - thanks for the confirmation and advise regarding loc-tite. If I slide the seat forwards I now realise access should be ok Thumbs Up

Did you get sorted? These can’t be tricky and you can end up with the dreaded spinning rivnut . Hopefully it worked out Andy
