Tiny camper trailer expands to double its size in 60 seconds

Interesting design.

"Originally produced in 2012, the Beauer 3X trailer aims to be both easy to tow, yet also spacious once you arrive at camp. However, when we reported in the past on the Beauer 3X trailer, it was more concept than reality, a fun GIF that proliferated across the internet. In early 2019, however, Beauer attended the the CMT camper show in Stuttgart to show the 3X trailer and a new 3X Plus model that expands to sleep six.

Recently, the company proved they could go small, too, debuting the 2X—a two-person camper that starts small when towing and then expands at camp in 60 seconds to reveal slick interiors. The other Beauer campers use three modules that nest together like cans and then expand horizontally to add more room. The new 2X model uses two modules instead of three, but still features a semi-circle shell that doubles in size to provide a little under 90 square feet of living space.

The 2X uses a two-room design. On one side is a bedroom or lounge area with a sofa that transforms into a double bed. The other room features an L-shaped kitchen with sink, gas stove, fridge, grill or oven, and plenty of cabinets for storage. Between the two areas is a wet bath with toilet, shower, and sink—all hidden by an accordion style door.

It’s a cute and spacious trailer for sleeping and cooking, large enough to stand up in yet lightweight enough—1,764 pounds—to be towed by many vehicles. The 2X is only available in Europe with prices starting at $41,450, and all of the exterior and interior colors can be customized."

Interesting and well engineered but basic concept is flawed IMO,
I have been inside one of these and deployed / closed one up.

It would make so much more sense if it expanded 'lengthways' rather than 'sideways'.

If you stop at the side of the road and want to make a brew, you potentially expand into the traffic,
if you reverse into your slot at a typical site and open up you are at odds with the expected orientation.

VW (I think) have a better approach...

These are interesting, I like the idea of compact hard-shelled campers but primarily so they can be stored in a domestic garage, so the height also needs to be considered.
Otherwise I don't see much point in them just being shorter than a normal van, because the extra weight of mechanisms must put them on an equal with vans 1.5 times their size (and a 3rd of the price).

Plenty of expanding trailer tents of course, but they need drying if wet & are not as warm & secure as hard-tops which is where HTs gain their USP & can go some way to justify the increased selling price.

X4SKP says 'If you stop at the side of the road and want to make a brew, you potentially expand into the traffic' - from the pics it looks as though you could make a brew without expanding this one, I could be wrong, but if the folding nature is of such importance to the customer, they would likely put up with minor inconveniences such as that & orientation.

The VW does look cleaver, but must be even more expensive than this folder.
The Australians have some interesting folders like the Pioneers, but they are mega-backs too, and over-engineered for European adventure.
I think the small Eribas come the closest to garage-able compacts that I have seen.

That type of expansion makes a lot of sense for any full-size van - I like it.
Shame the interiors look so 1970s.
