4 pin diff question
Can I fit a 4 pin diff to the front of a 2008 Defender as a direct replacement?

I'm told not if you have ABS but I don't understand why.

Yes. Four gear diffs were fitted as standard towards the end of production after the two gear diff proved of inadequate strength for the Puma engine.

I cannot see why the fitting of a 4 pin diff would make any difference to an ABS equipped vehicle.
The function of a differential is not affected in any way whether it is 4 pin or 2 pin It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

No problem with fitting any sort of diff with ABS in my view. Any open diff has the same function, a torque biasing system will almost certainly help the ABS, and a fully locking diff will just mean the ABS doesn't function when the driveline is all locked up. ---

True, but don't forget that the TDCi is the torquiest engine ever fitted to a mass production Defender, and also produces a lot of torsional vibration, both of which really hammer the transmission.

It's interesting (if a little OT) to note that they upgraded the front diff to a four-pin, and then downgraded the centre diff to one made of cheese to compensate Rolling Eyes ---
