Unknown plug/sensor
Can anyone identify this plug sensor beneath the turbo on my 2007 2.4 tdci? It’s not connected to anything I’ve searched on microcat but can’t identify what it’s for or if it should be connected!

Yes, it is there just to make you ask the third most popular question on the forum!

It actually serves no purpose on the Defender, but it is used on some of the other vehicles which use the same engine and is an oil level sensor. You will probably find that in addition to the sensor on the block there is a harness with a matching plug tied up out of the way (I couldn't see from the photos in your gallery), but they are not supposed to be connected on the Defender. I don't think anything bad actually happens if you do plug them up, but it certainly won't have any beneficial effect.

Cool thanks for clarifying 👍 Next question , what oil should I put in the engine ...😆 Just kidding

I’ve the engine on the floor and have replaced the clutch, rear crank seal, vacuum pump, egr valve and currently replacing the injector seals and the seals where the injector pass thru the rocker cover. I’ve read the posts on the timing chain and how it’s not as robust as the td5. I’m leaning towards a kit with the sprockets and new cover. My question is are there brands to avoid or is there a generally accepted good supplier? paddocks and Craddock are expensive compared to transit parts uk

There is no "throttle body" on a TDCi (nor TD5 for that matter).

Ah, didn't know that, happy to be corrected! There isn't on a 2.4.
