Heated Mirror Wiring
Hi Guy's, Iv'e bought some heated mirror elements and have mounted them up and drilled the doors and run wiring through to the engine bay etc...
However, I'm undecided about the best way to power them... Do I piggy back of the screen wiring (so they come on with the heated screen)... Do I mount a secondary switch with a separate power feed etc etc...
Anyway... If any body has any pictures and wiring diagrams that would be much appreciated as I'm looking for any suggestions...

Most common way is to wire them separately from a relay (usually in the seat box ner the battery. The activation pin on the relay is fed from a splice from the windscreen wiring. That way you're only using the windscreen wiring to provide a relatively low current to the relay, which provides an independent fused supply to the mirrors.

Generally wiring it to the window switch makes sense as you want the mirror heaters on when you need the window heated. Otherwise it'd be another switch taking up space on your dash!

Make sure you protect the cable when it passed through and sheet metal, and when it's near the doors, so it doesnt chafe and short out.

Have a separate switch (and relay) for the heated mirrors
I find that in the rain/mist/drizzle the heat will keep the mirrors clearer from water and you would not want the heated screen on

Not once have I bothered with a separate switch I always used the heated screen switch with absolutely no issues Thumbs Up The draw is well within the switch and wiring tolerances

so do you wire directly into the switch or off the relay? sorry electrical noob

Mine come straight off the screen wiring, as I always want them all on at once - haven't had a problem since I fitted them (8 years). Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
