New rear tub or costly body shop bill?!
Afternoon ladies and gents,

If you’d kindly take a look at the below photos and give me an opinion on the damage to the rear near side rear quarter if be very appreciative. I didn’t do the damage it was there when I got the 90.

Is it going to be a case of replacing the tub of getting a skilled coachman to sort it out?

I’m considering travelling from Yorkshire to CSK down south for sound proofing and dinitrol and have seen they also do body work, does anyone have experience of CSK?

Cheers for your input.

Cant say im a fan of CSK anymore. Did some sub par work on my 110 which in wasnt impressed with. Not much in the way of reparations either...

What model is it? Could be worth a new tub. There is a great defender bodyshop up north name eludes me Instagram @defender_ventures

You've got Alpine Restorations very close to you. I've never used them, so maybe you know something, but I would definitely speak to them before going miles across the country for work. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Be thankful that it isn't the new Defender - that'd probably write off an aluminium monocoque!

I think that a skilled body repairer could probably sort that, but I don't think it will be easy. It might be more economical to replace the tub or half-tub.

A new rear quarter skin should resolve that.

Plus a spot weld drill then a rivet gun to replace the spot welds. (unless you have a huge spot welder)

Some paint and it's a go. but TBH a skilled panel beater and a body press should be able to get the worst of it out with probably a new rear capping being needed. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Snap!

Our lovely local cantoniere (bod who sweeps the leaves up and odd jobs for the Mayor) reversed his flatbed into mine end of last week and promptly Censored off!

A few seconds detective work and I traced him to the other end of the village, his face was a picture.

Had an appointment at LR La Rochelle today, wasted a whole afternoon whilst they sucked through their teeth and decided they needed it back for a whole afternoon as the damage is severe.

In the meantime the Major has asked for a 'cash repair price' needs a new rear tub as door gaps are loose / tight.

Anyone any idea of book time to swap out a tub?

Cheers Keith

You’d need to find a proper old school panel beater, any “ordinary” bodyshop I’ve tried ain’t got a clue how to fix anything aluminium. That world is very much remove and replace or hammer it out and filler cake.

Issue I have with Alpine Restorations is that I’ve emailed them a number of times and they simply don’t respond. To me that’s just crap customer service

Here’s the two ways I’ve fixed them, new side, and a lot of panel bearing. I have done just the outer panels replaced for farmers, but it’s not as good a job, you need a aluminium spot welder with a large set of horns ££££

Rather than spot weld or rivet, use this.

Yeah you can stick them on, but in my humble opinion it looks odd without the spot welds- and yes you can fake them with a punch I know.
