It does decrease engine noise a few db. Its sole purpose is noise reduction (and to make it look cleaner)😆. Many run without especially those who frequently off road. Also seen quite a few who have polished the valve cover and or powder coat it. Looks awesome.

Removed mine a couple of months ago. Don’t notice the extra noise inside. Without it it’s easier to work around the engine bay, it looks better, and it can only help with getting heat out of the engine! Charlie

Does it not also help it warm up quicker? Also retain the heat of the engine on cold days? Just a thought

Took mine off and the exhaust heat shield over the turbo, also the bloody massive plastic under tray thing, when I serviced it last and haven’t got round to replacing any of them yet.

FWIW LR designed and put those under tray things on to appropriately cool the Td5 in all conditions. Removal usually has little consequences in Europe or North America but in Africa and Asia much more so. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Thanks for that info. It’s massive and makes servicing a real pain. Don’t think I will bother to refit for my small drives in cool climates.

Are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that they were a sound reduction measure. They're certainly lined with what looks like sound deadening material.
