A Pillar Grab Handles
An hours' fettling time this afternoon allowed me to complete a handful of minor jobs, the first of which was to fit a couple of grab handles to the A pillars:

I was prompted to do this as a result of fitting the removable steering wheel and column lock, as there's no longer anything convenient to pull myself in with! The handles are standard door pull ones that I happened to have kicking around and the fixing holes line up perfectly with the mounting points for the A pillar trims. I replaced the original screws with some M4 x 30mm machine screws, which engage very securely with the existing fixing points.

Update, some time later: The M4 machine screws jammed into the original screw holes worked ok but was really a bit of a bodge, so I decided to re-do them and tap a suitable thread into the holes:

I also fitted some dense foam to each handle to fill the gaps between them and the curved trim on which they sit:

The smaller steering wheel has also enabled me to relocate my phone holder to my side of the centre console:

Engine Sensors
I also took a few minutes to clean a couple of sensors. Firstly the MAF:

This sensor didn't look like I expected it to as the ones that I've seen pictures of are more exposed, with a plastic cage around the actual sensor. I can only assume that this is a later incarnation to better protect it, as it really wasn't very dirty.

And finally the inlet air temperature sender unit from the rigid pipe that forms part of the run to the top of the intercooler on the RHS of the engine bay:

The grab handles look smart, I know when grafty fitted his he used a Dremmel to shape the grab handle flat bottom so it was curved to match the A pillar trim and it also made it a tighter fit Thumbs Up 2015 HT XS 90

Removable Steering Wheel Boss - Update
So, after fitting this a week or so ago, I've gotten fed up of the reflections in the windscreen of the polished aluminium release toggles Rolling Eyes I therefore decided to paint them matt black. Firstly, I carefully masked up the boss itself:

I then applied a couple of coats of etch primer followed by a similar amount of matt black, both from rattle cans. The tolerance on the pins that the toggles slide along is quite tight in a couple of places, but nothing that a bit if polishing with some 1200 grit paper couldn't cure.

I'm disproportionately annoyed about this detail. I guess because it's an obvious failing of an expensive product that could have been easily fixed. Still, it's solved now and it's time to move on. Darren

Grab handles look smart and are well positioned, but can the trim on the A-pillar even come close to offering enough strength for a heavyweight pull? Or have you somehow drilled into the a-pillar itself? Monsieur Le Grenadier

They're fixed through the trim to the standard mounting points for the trim, which are part of the windscreen frame. Darren

Gtechniq Glass Treatment
Inspired by reading a post on here, I recently invested in some GTechniq glass cleaning products, which I wanted to try today. Unfortunately, the Land Rover was so filthy that I felt compelled to wash it first. Now, I'm not a detailing fanatic and I find cleaning cars tedious in the extreme, but today did become something of a 'session' Shocked So much so that I felt the need to go and take some new photo's:

I even polished the wheel cover but I did draw the line at the exhaust Laughing

Using the GTechniq stuff is quite an involved process. I bought their G4 Nanotech Glass Polish, G1 Smartglass and G2 Residue Remover, which I used in conjunction with some Autoglym glass cleaner:

The process was as follows:

1. Clean glass with Autoglym
2. Apply G4 polish
3. Clean glass with Autoglym
4. Apply G1 Smartglass - 1 coat to side and rear windows and three coats to windscreen. Allow five minutes between coats.
5. After fifteen minutes, use the G2 Residue Remover to clear any smears or excess G1 liquid. In practice, this was only necessary on the windscreen.

First impressions are very good - the glass really is crystal clear*. It'll be interesting to see how it performs in the rain.

That looks very smart Thumbs Up I may have been the source of you wanting to try the Gtechniq Rolling with laughter it’s far superior to rainx

Like you I refuse to polish my exhaust, but now you have started polishing, wash and waxing it’s a slippery slope.
