I think the problem is twofold. In my 2.2 tdci, where the bulkhead is still relatively airtight, the gearbox tunnel and handbrake get very hot on long journeys. I've noticed, if I wear shorts, it can be uncomfortable if my bare leg touches the metal part of the handbrake.

I also have an older V8 where the bulkhead still has a number of holes. As soon as I open the driver's window at speed, I get a blast of hot air on my leg from the under dash vent due to venturi effect. I think the issue may be related to the seal between the heater and the dash on the engine bay side. If I open other windows, this effect is lessened. I don't have AC, as yet, so am thinking about adding roof vents and a safari roof to create positive cabin pressure. I had a conversation with the Roamerdrive guy, but he suggested that neither his overdrive, nor my gearbox would survive driving at high speed for extended periods as everything would melt.

I have some of that Zircoflex heat shield sitting in my garage that I have been wondering how to fashion in to a heat shield and slip between the gearbox and tunnel, without much progress. Also been looking at the increased capacity sump for the transfer box, but Roamerdrive version says not for a V8 due to proximity to exhaust. Series-Defender outfitters do one that might work, but even more expensive and less cooling ribs.

I'd be interested to see what you implement and how effective it is.

Take your cat off and you notice the difference

Absolutely. Decatting makes a huge difference but is controversial.

So would wrapping the CAT not be worthwhile? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....
