5 miles later and the squeak is back! However I’m now worried as it’s not only a squeak but a tapping/knocking noise?? I have removed the belt, obviously the ‘chirp’ goes away however the knock remains ?

How do I upload a video?

Cheers

Alex

I’ve done it !

What do you guys think, I’m not convinced it’s the damper? Noisy injector?

If I’m honest it’s always had a noise, but it’s become extremely noticeable in the last few days.

Cheers

Alex

Any ideas on the knocking noise, mainly when hot?

I have replaced the crankshaft pulley.. I will wait a while before confirming the squeak has been cured!

Dampners for the Td5 are available at Turner Engineering for £145.50

Mine has been squealing on shut-down for years. Replaced belts, tensioners still no luck. This is going to be my next step.

Hi, what was the solution of your knocking noise ?
Our Td5 has the same noise...

Thanks, Paul

Sorry Alex, i have a video but i have to find out how to upload 😳
Photo’s no problem.

It all start with a dead injector.
Bought a refurbished one at Craddock
After the assembly and correct adjustment of the injectors and replacing the seals of the other injectors the engine was running very smooth.
But with coolant temperature at 75 degrees during a testdrive i heard a ticking noise at idle.
So i have the ticking/ratle only even the engine is warm.
Pulleys, crankshaft camper are new.
This morning a dieselspecialist had tested the craddock injector.
The injector is performing well.
-Engine does not smoke
-Cilinder roughnes on my Hawkeye is good. ( between -1 and + 2)
-No problem to start the car
-No diesel in oil

Does my problem sound like yours ?
Did you solve your problem ?

Yes. Sounds very much the same. I replaced all 5 injectors but it’s still doing it.

I will add that not all diesel specialists can test Td5 injectors, having said that a bench test doesn’t always confirm a faulty
Or noisy injector.

I was told this recently by a well established diesel specialist.

My dieselspecialist told me I had to wish that the other 4 injectors should be so good as the refurbished injector wich i bought from Craddock !
I let them test the new injector because of the engine noise and I was afraid that the needle in it was not closing correctly wich can destroy the piston.

Yesterday I changed the engine oil from 5W40 to 10W40.
Both full syntetic offcourse.
I’ve also checked the famous oilpump bolt.
The old bolt was correct tightened, and I saw a small sign of threadlock on it Rolling Eyes
(Our Def is a 2004 car)
With the new oil there was no difference cold and warm in engine noise.
But I noticed something else !
With the car parked and engine running idle I heard the noise.
Engine coolant was 91 degrees C.
Then I slowly turned the steeringwheel....noise was almost complete gone !
After that I switched on the aircopump, noise completely gone !
Conclusion: when I asked for a bit of power to the engine the noise is gone.

Bearings of the aircopump seems oké.
With the belt of I noticed some freeplay on the steeringpump pulley.
My waterpump is new.
The pulley is correct mounted on the steeringpump axle.
So what to do next....

Alex, would you check this also ?
- to be continued - Thumbs Up

I eliminated the pulleys by running without the belt on when hot.. for a brief minute. The noise mine produces didn’t change.

I have checked and tested nearly everything I can, without stripping the engine of course. Since I noticed the noise I haven’t used it. I only know of three including yours which makes this noise! I think the next step will be finding someone who uses a picoscope.. whether this will flap up anything?

I will try another ECU, although I’m 99% sure it’s not going to solve the problem, it keeps niggling me.

How many miles/km’s has yours done ?

Mines done 83,000 although irrelevant, the other Td5 I know which makes a similar noise has done 110,000.

Remapped, any modifications ?

Engine work carried out recently ? (Apart from injector)
