2011 Model 2.4 Defender- Diesel Emissions Upgrade
Received a letter today from Land Rover, saying 2011 Defenders no longer meet regulatory emissions limits, and offering a software update free of charge, don't know weather to bother as it may affect performance, has anybody else had this notice ?

The VW saga all over again.

Strange that they'll recall for an emissions problem but not for a trivial fault like the hubs breaking off the front axle.

i have the same letter. i ts a PCM update to meet the emissions but only if you have less than 62k miles on your vehicle.......

so for all those at 62K+ miles you can carry on polluting i guess as they dont care/offer it..... Shocked Cheers

This is probably due to the Rest of World map loaded as standard that we didn’t need here in Blighty.
To cope with lower spec fuels basically, at the expense of MPG and HP / Torque.

Not sure I’d want LR to fiddle, chances are you’d come out with problems when you had none going in. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Received mine this morning. I’m at 57k mileage. Should I or should I not?

I wouldn't let a Land Rover dealer anywhere near my ECU.

If I was under 62k I would. Lr have a pretty big r&d department and to Put It out there now, 9 years on means it's onto something. Cheers

That's one way of looking at it.

Another is that they got caught cheating emissions and released a hastily created patch to cover their arses.

Either way I still wouldn't trust a dealer to work on my ECU. But that's just me.

Free remap
anyone else had a letter this morning offering to do a free re-map?

turns out some 2011MY 2.4 may require an emissions 'upgrade' to meet required standards.
does that mean JLR were cheating too?

it only applies to vehicles that have done less than 100,000kms ?

I don't qualify and if I did I'd not be taking them up on their 'kind offer'. quite happy with 40mpg and spritely performance regardless of emissions.....well I might take exception if lumps of poo were dropping out the exhaust Rolling with laughter

Like was said when this first hit the headlines, JLR did such a good job of cheating the emissions tests that their cars still ended up in the highest CO2 class Laughing

VW developed a mode to change emissions specifically during the test and be different elsewhere. No suggestion that’s what JLR have done.

Emissions still have to compliant after a number of years after manufacturer and this may be the issue. Odd it seems to be 2011 only (last of 2.4) at the moment and there’s been no announcement.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
