Apart from screen wash there is no need to open the bonnet / hood as the information can be found on the screen in front of the driver. Expect the new Defender to be the same.

Unfortunately some dealers dont go into enough detail at handover nor fully explain the benifits of using the free half day Experience and finding out more about their vehicles. For many owners Land Rovers are just 'cars' and get treated as such. Even the staff at main dealers look like any other sales people.

A friend works in the service department at a main dealers and he was saying a couple of issues they get with FFRR and RR Sport owners is when they come in complaining the their cars are slow
. They have either put it into low range or put the hill decent control on. You would not let anyone drive a digger without training but at a dealership you can drive off in something with more technology than anything that landed on the moon.

Apart from Adblue has Land Rover cured the oil dilution problem yet?

I wonder if the screen will have messages like "Warning: Multiple oil leaks".

Talking of low range, do we know if the new Defender will be blessed with a dual range transfer box?

That will be very interesting to see. Personally I suspect that its 4WD system will be based on a Haldex unit not a centre diff, but I would have thought that the range change was a feature that had to persist. We shall see.

My wife drives a Mercedes GL320 Bluetec. Love the vehicle, the biggest issue is AdBlue. The AdBlue tank has already been replaced under warranty ($1200 part) 2 NOx sensors and DEF injector needed to be replaced also... by far the most expensive portion of repairs over the 9 years we have had the vehicle.

Now other components of the system are failing again, and with the dealership being the only one that can clear the "remaining starts" code it's close to a $10,000 bill for them to replace items that are going to fail again. Biggest issue is if you drive a DEF equipped vehicle short distances it will clog the system with unburnt AdBlue. Solution, rip it all out, re-program the ECU and carry on.

Let's hope Land Rover's AdBlue system is better than Mercedes! it's a Landrover thing...
