Shocks and springs what ones?
A topic which has come up many times i expect......but it is a forum!!

Shocks? what are your preferred? and why.

Springs? same as above really. longer travel? shorter?

Im am currently building an overland spec 110 for an upcoming trip, my springs and shocks are the originals and 9 years old with 50k under their belt.

i will want a good mixture of road and off road performance (mostly on road) and can handle the extra weight of the kit

Suggestions....Koni? good reviews......Bilstein B6 also good reviews

Personally I'd probably go the OME route, with the details dictated by the anticipated load and planned usage.

As above, go the OME route (Original Manufacture Equipment) and if needed some Air helper springs.

Sorry, I should have been clearer !

OME = Old Man Emu.

(OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer).

I'd go for the Old Man Emu solution.

I would go for the adjustible Koni shocks.
Springs I don't know. I have Britparts now and they are OK but the paint is off so the look rusty. Roel

More often than not people just recommend the ones they have fitted... As I will!
I have nothing much to compare them to other than the knackered OEM dampers that were previously fitted but I have been very happy with my Fox dampers. They are the manufacturer of choice in many competitive motorsports so can't go wrong in my opinion.

Springs, I guess it's down to personal requirements and specifications but there are all manner of springs available on the market so you will find something suitable > 110 XS Double Cab

I had Old Man Emu on my discovery a few years back and they were great but this overland is a different build altogether.

Hank your right most people will give opinions on what they are running and have no other comparison compared to the knackered units they took out.

Shocks vary widely, Koni have a huge diameter barrel compared to others, Old Man Emu build doesn't seem as good as Bilstein then theres the Bilstein B6 with ride control, Fox is another one added to the list to look into.

Springs on the other hand dont seem to have the same sort of passion about them compared to shocks, my last 90 i added the 2" extra lift springs and regretted it, i dont think i want to go down that route again....unless they are a must have for overland due to weight etc. 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Have seen a lot of OME defender dampers with the ends sheared off from normal use, not even overland.

My personal vote would be Bilstein.

I run several defenders and have modified plenty more and rechassied 8 or so. I have seen and tried various combinations over the last 15+ years from overlanding , to trials to greenlane to full on comps.

I have tried, ome, oem, koni, blistein, procomp, britpart, king, fox through leafs, coils and coil overs.

I run my 110 overlander usw on std springs, with rear air helper and ome shocks. Cheers

I've just changed my rear springs, and the 110 now handles like a dream.

Have HD LR front springs (normal LR ones, 90 rears/110 HD fronts)

Military wolf 110 rear springs.

OME dmpers all round.

I thought the rear springs would be too hard but with some kit on board (and my 110 has a full cage) its really nice, and gives a nice "rear end up" stance.

I have heard a few gripes about the welds on the OME shearing off as mentioned, shame because they were my go to choice.

Air helpers? umm sounds interesting ive seem them a while back but totally forgot about them....any one use them on here? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Wales 1995 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green
I have a 300TDI 110 CSW built up as an overland vehicle. I try and run as light as possible but still carry a bit of weight with water tanks and a long range fuel tank, the following has worked very well for me for the last 4 years with about 15,000 miles off road in Pyrenees, Morocco and Western Sahara:

Shocks: Koni Heavy Track - Adjustable with setting one off softest

Springs: Front - Standard Height Land Rover Springs - NRC8044/8045

Springs: Rear - Standard Height Progressive Springs - RKB101111

I don't have a winch fitted but have fitted Air Lift Helper springs on the rear when I am very loaded on trips with the family with all the toys!!

Set up works really well and has performed faultlessly on and off road including long sections of desert and corrugations in harsh terrain.
