Ctek chargers failed?
I’ve used ctek chargers for years and never had any issues with them until a few days ago. We had a particularly lively electrical storm over our village, many a router and even smart TV’s in the village were rendered toast during the storm. I thought I had got away with it but sometime after the storm I noticed both my ctek chargers were dead Sad . I have an MXS 5.0 on the Defender and a XS 0.8 on my Triumph Bonneville.

Both outside the warranty period so I took the MXS to bits. No fuses blown just a strong smell of burnt electronics. It is strange that both Cteks failed and yet nothing else on my property failed which did include IT pieces not on surge protectors, very odd. Both vehicle electrical systems seem unaffected……phew!! I will use battery condition equipment on my vehicles again but will use surge protection equipment as well.

I have contacted Ctek and will see what they have to say, I just thought I would let you all know as I know a lot of you use chargers and would strongly recommend some sort of mains protection.

Hello Newsey

Sorry to hear your Ctek's are no more... Sad

Good advice I think to run the Ctek via a surge protector / RCD.

I'm a recent convert to Ctek and mainly due to wanting to add in some weather protection for external use I
ended up with this set up...for long term battery maintenance the RCD makes sense to hopefully trip out and
save everything down stream...as you say at least your vehicles are OK.

Maybe there should be an integral Ctek cut out to prevent your experience... Question
Interesting to see what they say....

Hi Skip
Looks a good setup Thumbs Up Ive used ctek for years, especially on the bikes i've had, probably saved a fortune on batteries.

Agree about the internal protection...Very surprised
