Blackvue dash cam owners - "power magic pro" quest
So many daft questions; so little time...

I am looking to fit a blackvue dashcam, while my dash and headlining are out, giving me easy access to wire it neatly.

I'm wondering about the "power magic pro" kit, which does away with the cigarette lighter plug. Here:

https://www.blackvue.com/power-magic-pro#1...5489d-7d5c

My question is simply - what's the round/cylindrical black thing that comes with the harness?? ( you can see it in the picture at the top of the page) I can't figure out why power wouldn't just be supplied up to the camera with a simple cable..? Does the camera plug into that thing? I've looked at th downloadable manual too, and it just says 'to the camera'...

Just trying to decide it it's worth the money, or do I just cut off the cigarette plug and splice the camera into my aux fuse box. Using the kit allows me to use parking mode, which I think might be handy in some places.

Its a hard wired kit that is meant to switch it off before it flattens the battery - not sure it works depending on where you park as cats / trees moving / other traffic must set it off as I have reams of recordings of nothing reall, and only just enough juice to start the engine.

I've taken to pulling the plug out and powering off when its parked safely.

Thanks ickle,
I bought a pair of the DR590 ones. I think they rely on motion or a bump to start the parking recording, rather than being motion sensing.

I think I know what the wiring kit is for, I just can't understand what the black cylinder is...? Donald

Its a ‘floating’ socket. It’s not what most people would think hard wiring is about. I couldn’t get me head around the rational of having it in the system, but they must have thought of a reason unless that’s just what they do in Korea.
Just cut it off and cut the power plug off the wire from the camera and do permanent joints. This is what I did which meant I don’t have a stupid length of cable between the magic pro and the camera and I don’t have the bulk of a separate cigarette plug and socket floating about behind the dash.

Whatever you do though, make sure you e got the polarity of the cable correct before you do the permanent fix of the wires

Ah! It's a socket to put the cigarette plug cable into! Thanks very much for that. I guess it's obvious enough - but their pictures don't show it as such.

Like you say, it wasn't on my radar for a 'hard wired' solution, so I wasn't expecting that at all. I think I'll be doing something neater than that right enough.

Is the polarity thing obvious enough? Donald
