Check is here now, I will have a chat with the bank sometime next week to see where I can go from here, Also I will be having a sort out of spares that are no longer needed now, I have just sold a couple bits already there.
I have a boxes of spares to have a look through so that I can free up some space and raiders Thumbs Up

I have my eye on a car, but I will have see If I can get another 7k for it and see what my insurance will say before I buy it, in case they are not keen on the idea after what has happened. ( I will be changing insurances this year anyway regardless) Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Hello Procta, glad that you are sorted.
Funny old world at the moment, one of the kid's friends has bought a car recently and he took out a bank loan, nothing special there.
Then he took a zero percent transfer from a credit card to pay off the bank loan within 4 weeks of getting it and now has a zero percent debt on his credit card that is good for 3 years. The whole thing only cost £50 to set up with the card company.
Have good hunt around before you get another loan, and try to get one with no penalties for repaying early.
Money saving Expert , on line , is often a good place to start.
Apologies if I am overstepping the mark, but with best intentions. Very Happy

Get one a cheaper one without the loan, would be the only advice I could give.

The less debt attached to your name the better, especially expensive debt like bank loans!

Agree with the above, however, if your existing loan isn't tied to the old defender then don't pay it off with the money from the insurers. Instead use the £8k to buy a new defender and see what you can do with the possibility of transferring the debt over to an interest FRE credit card for 3 years! You know that whatever you buy the purchase price will just be the start of the spending so why stretch yourself unnecessarily? Better to get a decent 300Tdi & have money left over to do work on it - when I bought my 300Tdi I had an overall budget which was split £5k for the vehicle & £3k for repairs, mods, add-ons Thumbs Up (that was 18 years ago though...). Don't rush to buy another defender, keep looking & the right one will find you.

I have bought a couple of items from Procta and I just thought I ought to say, they turned up today, a day earlier than he had said, and they were packaged up brilliantly. Probably the best packing I have every seen.

Thanks mate.

Update on where we are, I have put my cheque into the bank and told them here is your remaining doe for the car, so just got to go back on Tuesday and close that one off. Thumbs Up
I went to nationwide to have a chat about a loan and open up a 1st time buyer ISA, and we will be going forwards from there next week onwards, ( I have to open up an account with them ) So really it all makes sense, me putting money away now while I have the option ( spare bulk of cash to go into it from cheque and over time) Also with me doing it this way I could get better rates again Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well the hunt is still on, I can get the ££ but its also getting the better deal per month too, so that I can at least start putting money away for a gaff,
Sad thing is I have started to sell off some of my spares I had for off, Which is a bonus to the buyers, so that they can use them on their defenders, rather than me keeping hold of them until god knows when. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
