Thanks Fekete, but RD is spot on. Many of the the wires had just corroded away and the whole thing was a mess, so I decided it was beyond salvaging. Probably could have stripped it all out and started again but really couldn't be bothered for the sake of the cost of a new one (about £40'ish)... lazy I know.... Sad

New one has been treated with ACF50 Corrosion block grease .... which perhaps is what K9F may have used to bring yours back to life? Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Party Monkey, where do you mount your trailer socket? If not already there I can recommend in the rear X member recess - it goes a long way to keeping it safe and cr@p free.

PMonkey mine was really rusty inside where you plug the trailer plug in.... when i braked my headlights use to come on ? as said the grease has worked.... when K9F did mine he looked at his and it was the same rusty inside and he never uses it.... now you have greased your's up it should be fine Thumbs Up NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

Just on a side bracket on the drop plate, which was how I inherited it. Good shout on the cross member recess - will take a look at that Thumbs Up

@fekete.... yep all should be good now Thumbs Up I only came across this recently when testing my new lightboard for the bike rack. Good job it was in these circumstances and not when I did actually need to tow something

Very nice CR Thumbs Up

Put a load of bungs in the chassis side holes leaving the bottom ones clear to drain water. Still have to seal the gaping holes Shocked on the front of the dumb irons. Why do they leave them like that Shocked LR's usually have plates welded over to stop all the crud and rain driving into the chassis innards Confused Will also seal the two big holes behind the front wheels which would just act as a funnel straight into the chassis Confused

Used more Dinitrol and also bought some ACF-50 on BigMikes recommendation and have used it in the engine bay on the electrics and rusting common rail, looks to be good stuff, and easy to use especially with the extension nozzle! I have put it also on the badly rusting Series2 rear cross-member for the ultimate test to see how it copes. I was going to buy some of the Dielectric grease but can't be bothered disconnecting everything to treat it all and this ACF-50 along with the Wurth Anti-Corrosion wax I have plastered everything with should do the job. Thumbs Up As others have said it looks to be miracle stuff that can do more than one thing - I need to order another can Embarassed

Can be got through E-bay from Wemoto.com £12.45 delivered (a lot cheaper than the £16 for the Wurth stuff!)

What will you do if it ever rusts.

Word of advice...keep the front dumb irons open DO NOT seal them.

If you really want ill sell you the proper rubber inserts (choose your age) as the first thing I do is remove them - waxoyl and leave open.

The number of defenders that have had them covered - the crap still gets in, the rots it - even if you waxoyl it.

Oh and incidentally the hole is a pillar jack point Thumbs Up Mike

"proper rubber inserts" MSE, Thanks for that, good to know they produced them. Saves on more time fabricating things! I have even ordered the Entreq mudflap reinforcement brackets - how lazy is that!

Fitted aerial mount for CB on rear left light guard. Also fitted an earth wire. It's been 20 years since I last had a cb, but this time I went for a handheld model, so I can easily transfer it to my 2a (no roof, so no need for external aerial).

Handheld actually worked quite well inside the 90 with the rubber duck fitted, but I came across my old mirror/bike aerial mount, so I thought, what the hell.
