Alloy Grill Badge
I braved the suddenly very wintery weather today to fit a nice little alloy Land Rover badge to the front grill. The badge came from eBay and was pre-drilled with a couple of holes to take M3 bolts.

To mount it to the grill, I made a little ali plate, drilled and shaped to match, to clamp it in place:

I covered the back of the badge and front of the plate with foam tape, so they won't damage the grill finish:

Clamped in position with M3 allen screws and nylocs:

I'm really pleased with the result. I also took the opportunity to replace the bolts securing the grill with some blackened versions, whilst I had it apart:

LED High Level Brake Light
Another little task today was to fit an LED high level brake light. This is the Bolt on Bits version, which seemed like an absolute bargain at £30:

The moulding appears identical to the original, except without the hole for the bulb holder:

It fits in exactly the same way and the wiring is 'plug and play':

From the outside (yes, I know it's dirty Laughing ):

And in operation:

It's certainly bright enough and lights up noticeably quicker than the regular bulbs in the main lights. A relatively inexpensive and satisfying upgrade Very Happy Darren

Thanks, chaps.

There's a long list of things still to do but most of them will have to wait for warmer weather Rolling Eyes Darren

Just read your thread about 5 times. Riveting read. Great job on everything. I've just soundproofed mine and can relate to everything you said. Next step is the second battery. Your notes will be essential and save me a ton of time.
Cheers and keep it up.

p.s. If you ever want to sell it, let me know Smile

Great thread, I have been looking at the high level LED brake light. There seems to be some very expensive options available but I think I will be going with the same option as you. Looks like it does the job just fine. Thumbs Up

Brake Pads - Rear
I was bloody annoyed this week, when my 110 failed it's MOT! Only for worn rear brake pads, which I kind of knew about as they were noted at its' last service, but thought there was enough to last until next Rolling Eyes Ho hum, I guess that's what the test is for. Anyway, as a result, I've had to get my hands dirty and replace the pads.

The pads that I've used are Borg and Beck, purely because they were available from my local motor factors. Interestingly, they're chamfered on one edge, so are effectively handed and have to be fitted the right way around:

Before starting on the calliper, I removed the cap from the master cylinder and wadding a towel around it in case any fluid was pushed out. It turned out that this wasn't necessary as the level didn't get to the top, but it's a useful precaution.

With one side jacked up and the wheel removed, the guide pins came out easily. To then free the pads, I used a couple of small G clamps to press them back against the cylinders, to allow enough clearance:

In hindsight and with more time, I'd have replaced the pins and springs, but the originals cleaned up pretty well and were treated to a smear of copperslip before re-assembly:

The cylinders needed to pushed back in a little further to allow the new pads to be fitted, which again was done with a small G clamp. I also gave everything a blast of brake cleaner beforehand to preserve the seals. Then, with more copperslip on the backs of the new pads, everything was put back together:

The old pads, marked Ferrodo, really were quite worn:

A quick test drive and all was well, so it'll be back for the re-test on Monday. Darren
