My findings are the opposite to this.

Two similar vehicles, both same age 2.4s one had 5k more miles on it. Both carrying roughly same weight, both on same sized and pattern tyres both towing very similar weights, 3t. Both tuned by bas stage 1, one with allisort intercooler, one with std. Both heaters on off and no fans on.

Using scanguage on engine temp, on m5, and working off cb we both went under same bridge in 5th gear at 60mph, both not applying any load. Then without changing gear we both attempted to stay as close to 60 as we could on a 2~3mile uphill pull.

End result, the one with the intercooler almost caught the one in front, 500m difference at start.

At the top there was 10deg difference in engine temp at same road marking. Allsiport one being cooler.

I concluded larger intercooler volume, cooler intake, cooler egt, cooler engine Cheers

I have the BAS hi-flow IC, but had it fitted with teh BAS 170AB remap so can't comment on if you feel any difference. I was recommended it as I tow, but Pete said it wasn't essential if not towing. However, i felt increasing power by 40% the engine must benefit from the extra cooling, not necessarily in performance but for longevity? Good oppourtunity to change to silicone hoses too... where does it stop Shocked

Unlike other performance specialists Pete @ BAS is very honest about the real world benefits of intercoolers, exhausts etc. and provides actual data not waffle to back it up. Some of the stuff I've heard from other outfits is frankly laughable.

Bowler also tell it like it is.

If folks are serious about actual performance upgrades and not just bolting on shiny new things then a visit to the dyno could be worthwhile. Probably save some money also.

I should have qualified my statement: under normal loads, you will not see a reduction in engine temp by fitting a larger intercooler. Of course if the engine is working hard under a sustained load, a larger intercooler will somewhat help keep the EGT lower, and hence the operating temperature lower. But again, this is not the primary purpose of the intercooler.

These conversions are fully tested and carefully engineered. Because we do not substantially increase engine loads, by offsetting any increase in boost pressure with reduced air temperature and also by increasing volumetric efficiency without resorting to increased RPM, it is not necessary to carry out costly internal engine modifications, which can lead to long-term reliability problems. By having a range of conversions, we are able to tailor each more closely to every customers requirements whether it be for towing, off-road or fast motorway use.

Our intercooler systems substantially improve performance with optimum thermal efficiency and fuel consumption, so smoke emissions are low and any additional loads on the engine are very small.

Tolley, is that you as a supplier, or are you quoting something from somewhere? Cheers

In one of BAS’s posts on here he says that with his map you can add an intercooler afterwards, the sensors will sense the lower charge temperature and the map will adjust automatically > 110 XS Double Cab
