Renewing tyres
Hello all,

I will need to renew my front tyres soon, is it ok to renew just the two or will I need to renew all four to prevent damage to transmission?

I currently have the standard grabber trs and quite happy with them so would replace like for like. Tempted to upgrade all four to conti cross contact ATS but will obviously cost lots more!

Fine to just change the fronts. Only the daft models like the Freeloader and the other plastic tripe with rubber band transmissions is that precious about tyre swaps. Permanent 4x4 vehicles usually wear the fronts out noticeably quicker. ---

have you considered going for a 'new' set of wheels / tyres and selling yours?

someone on here has a set, done 100 miles.

I have a set also which are cheaper but they've done more miles - I suspect the new tyres might be the better option?

could be cheaper overall?

Thanks for the responses and the link caterham but I have decided to save a bit longer and replace the four so they are all new. The conti cross contacts ats that where on the last Defenders are still available and fitted locally so will keep a standard look Cool

Thanks, yes I could Thumbs Up I am hoping that I can replace in the next couple of months so not a huge issue to be honest, seeing as I do low mileage.

I quite like the Continental Cross Contacts, I think they're a good all round AT tyre. I had BFG's on my 300Tdi and had a couple of bad experiences under braking in the wet on tarmac. Most of my off road driving is on wet grass and light mud towing a horse trailer and the CCC's definitely cope better than the BFG's. Defender 90XS SW

That's good to hear, I have only read positive comments on them so must be good. I don't do much off road, occasional green lane is about it so don't need an agressive tyre.

I was quite happy with the general trs but seem to be getting hard to come by, or expensive when you do. Contis seem the natural progression and understated to look at. Thumbs Up
