I removed the original and took it with me to my local LR parts place (BG Landrover) I have PRC8593 in my Disco 200

OK your Disco engine must now have a Defender thermostat housing to take the 5/8" UNF Defender sensor. At least it's correct for the gauge Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Latest Update:
Checked the gauges and the only thing I could see was the earth that was connected to the securing bracket didn't actually go to earth!! This has now been corrected. Ive now taken it on a test run and it still runs hotter than it used to (see attached photo's) this may be down to the fact the old Thernostat was 82c but the new one is 88c! Think I'll run it carefully for a while. When checking the temps:
Thermostat Housing about 70c
Top of Rad 60c
Bottom of Rad about 30c
Top of engine block 80c

Right now to work out why I have no lights, even dash ones, and why the alternator or PAS Pump screens often (there may be more simpletons questions coming your way soon, you have been warned but its great doing the work and not paying someone to do it for me).....the joys of LR ownership Smile

Hi Buz
That sounds a lot better with the temp guage, what’s happened to your lights, sounds like a wires pulled off somewhere, check if there’s any power going to the light switch, brown wire, has something been disconnected ? check your earths are all ok.

Hi OJ,
The lights ended up being a nice simple one, it was the connector, it looked ok but after I broke it down, tested the switch and then put it back together it all worked...another to keep an eye on Wink
I'm now replacing the binnacle mount from plastic to a new metal one....so getting there slowly....

resurrecting an old thread
have done a lot of reading but cant see a definitive answer to my variation of this problem

I have a 90 with a disco 200 tdi engine. It came with a naff VDO temp gauge. I wanted to get back to stock so I got hold of a genuine 200tdi temp gauge (AMR2631) as i thought this would be the most simple route. I now get very high indicated temperature (engine is barely warm).

my question is ...... which is the right sensor to match the 200tdi gauge?

steve parkers say PRC2506 as part of their conversion kit but I suspect that's to work with a 2.5 N/A or TD gauge (I have this and ironically when I pulled out the old sensor its the same) has white body

or PRC6663 with the black body as martin suggests above

again just for clarity genuine 200tdi gauge 2010 90 LHD soft top

If it's got the Disco thermostat housing, you need a sensor with M16x1.0 thread.

For a 'Defender' gauge, this sensor is PRC6663  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Vdo gauges are very good normally when paired with a vdo sender, how is it naff ?
