Instrument cluster removal
I'm having to remove the instrument cluster, to access the Lucas 10AS immobilizer.
Looking through the workshop manual, the final step on re-assembly is:

6. Using the approved Land Rover diagnostic equipment, configure the instrument cluster.

Does this mean that the instruments must be reconfigured after removal??
What happens if it isn't?

If fitting a new one yes, but not if fitting same cluster back in.

Thanks Windy - makes sense!

Was a bit worried as I'd read on a S.African or Australian forum, that the dealer needed to re-program following a remove and re-fit, but seemed a bit odd...

I've removed mine and refitted it without problems on more than one occasion.

Removed the cluster this evening, and was surprised that the immobiliser is actually not behind the instruments.... I'm assuming that I have to remove the whole dash Rolling Eyes

Anyone know how to release the connector? It looks like the the black bit is a retaining clip that needs to be lifted, and pivots around the hinge line. Its quite stiff through and a bit nervous about forcing it...

Also, any idea where I can get replacement retainers for the instrument cluster fixing screws?

Looks like the black thing comes up as arrowed yes. Cant remember tbh other than it was stiff. As far as those little blue things go, i ended up cutting a slot in and then gluing in some large wall plugs. Worked a treat!

The 10AS is in behind the speaker drivers side.

Not possible to order separately from LR. This blue clip has no LR part number.
But you can order it from BMW as they use it in their Mini. Google BMW part number 07131472727. Sometimes you also find it on eBay.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
