Floor mounted seat belt bracket - Defender
Hi,

I am in the process of changing the floor mounted seat belt bracket in the rear of my defender. It is the one that is mounted in the centre of the rear floor near to the tailgate. The old was rusted up. It is held on with two bolts, one 10mm and one 17mm and I had assumed that they had some form of captive nuts on the back, but they didn't!! The back has some form of bracket that has fell away.

I can't see how to get at it other than dropping the fuel tank. Sounds a world of pain for two bolts.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get at it /how big a job it is to lower the tank?

Thanks
Tim.

Picture speaks a thousand words! You don’t say if it’s a 90/110/130 or Td5 tdci?!

I'd hazard a guess that it's a 2008 90 CSW in Java Black Whistle

Tim, I think you're stuck with having to drop the tank. Darren

Magnet on a stick down through one of the bolt holes to locate it and lift it up, get one bolt in the other hole then to hold it. Cheers

Thank you.
Thanks you both for the suggestions. I’ll try the magnet route first before dropping the tank.

NickMc - it is a 90. Does this help with your reply/suggestions?

If it has the nuts on the plate, use a bit of threaded bar. That way you can slot over the fitting, then use other bolt, remove threaded bar, use second bolt.

Sadly neither the magnet nor the threaded bar worked Big Cry

Started to remove the cradle to get a chance at getting to it from beneath. 5 broken nuts later from underneath I’m left with the two nuts in the rear bumper area. Normal socket won’t fit, so I need s deep socket. Does anyone know the nut size?

Thanks
