You could try silicon spray. Definitely not WD40 though, as it can react with some types of rubber. Darren

Gummi Pflege - it is excellent
Just google it, I use it on the Range Rover and also an SLK (loads of rubber seals) Keith |

As above. I took mine off and washed them with standard washing up liquid. I then coated them on all sides with gummi pfledge, refitted and coated the exposed surfaces again.
It took a while for them to bed back in but they are virtually silent now. Really worthwhile doing it as they were driving me mad!! 2002 110 td5 |

I find that adjusting the door catches so that the doors close a little tighter will stop the squeak.
I recently fitted new hinges (Optimill), new strikers (X-Eng), and have now adjusted all the doors so that they fit as well as possible, open and close properly and easily, and shut tight so as not to squeak. The fettling has been a complete nightmare, and it occurred to me that I have actually spent longer getting the doors as right as I can - about three full days work in total - that JLR spent building the entire vehicle in the first place! The biggest shock was when I found on removal of the old hinges that on not a single door did the holes in the door skin match the holes in the door frame, they were out by up to 5mm (on an 8mm hole!). There was clear evident that the factory had simply smacked the screws with a hammer to get then through the door! Shocking, really. Opening out the holes in the door skin to match the holes in the frame gave enough extra adjustment to allow the doors to be fitted quite well into the apertures, in the end, and the fit is now unrecognisable from factory. |

My doors are all a very good fit although l think the rear door could be adjusted to close a little tighter.

Thanks for that. I've been bugged by a squeaky driver's door since the temperature dropped recently. The hinges are all new and free of pin play. Gummi Pflege alone didn't fix it, but your comment inspired me to dig out the T30 wrench and move the catch inwards a bit at lunchtime. It needs a more hefty slam now to get it to grab the 2nd catch now, but the good news is that the jiggly squeak has now gone |

That’s good because it will enable you to isolate all the other squeaking parts.

This was an interesting read...
I'm new to Defenders and over night my 90 has suddenly developed this horrendous squeaking noise which I thought was coming from the passenger seat and it's been driving me nuts trying to find it. I'm going to check this over the weekend, without this website I wouldn't even have thought to check the seal!! |

Glycerin available from cake decorating shops and sometimes chemists works well too.

Every defender I’ve owned or driven for work about ten in total from 200 300 td5 2.4 and 2.2 have all without fail needed attention in the door department. One of the first things I do is fettle the latches so the doors shut better. The latest 2.2 has been done about 30,000 miles ago and the latches have moved out again and need moving back in a couple of mm so when I look in the mirror the lines are straight.
When first adjusted it became difficult to close a door without a window open due to it sealing properly (it actually made ears pop) When they do get loose they squeak and leak. |

Will GT85 PFTE work in the same way as the Gummy Pflege or am I being stupid?
