We received a letter from Yeovil police stating my wife's Evoque had been involved in a hit and run in a Yeovil supermarket car park and wanted to know who was driving. Tricky because although we bought the car from Exeter LR dealer and live near Preston, Lancs we have never been to Yeovil!! nor will ever go near there now.

Had to provide details of change of Reg.no. from date of purchase to a cherished plate so it appears the original "cloned number" was still being used by someone. Also provided details of purchase etc.etc colour of car and as much info to prove we were not in Yeovil at the time of the incident.

Scumbags can take details of the Reg.no. from dealer adverts and use it on another car.

Nothing more heard. Jeff

Its pretty insidious, Free "MOTs", Free "Road tax", free "insurance", And free "fuel".

I wonder how police deal with it, Do they add it to the ANPR system, then pull it over whenever they find it and check the VIN?

its funny how people love to buy Nice cars and yet they can't afford to run them, makes you wonder how they get the money in the first place. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

There was a spate of chavs stealing car regs about two years ago around here, They mainly targeted vans. I think they were caught, due to some one catching their faces on camera and identified on facebook.

Another thing to watch out for is putting your car in for part ex, My uncle put his jag in for a merc. The dealer had put the car through an auction due to its age. Anyway someone bought it to break, but decided to drive it about with out any change of owner or tax, insurance. So when he was caught, The police went around my uncles house and asked when did he get shot of the vechice etc. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Just had an 'interesting' phone call from West Yorkshire police. Try reporting an untaxed, no MOT and no insurance vehicle on the public highway and they are NOT interested. It is nothing to do with them! Now if it is seen MOVING by one of their vehicles with ANPR they might repeat might stop it.

So basically the police are letting people get away with driving untax, uninsured, non MOT vehicles.

You need to watch out for what happens with your insurance. This happened to us, our car was allegedly involved in a hit and run at the opposite end of the country. Turned out to be a miss recorded number plate and there was no problem sorting it with the Police. However, two whole years later after renewing our insurance we got a letter advising us that the premium was being increased as we had failed to declare a claim. The letter basically accused us of trying to commit insurance fraud. Turns out this phantom accident accident was recorded against us in some insurance database somewhere. Why it hadn't cropped up the year before, no-one could say. Literally days of phoning various people at two different insurance companies to get it sorted and am not convinced it wont crop up again in the future. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
