A lot of the issues are down to quality,we never had problems with mirror arms, headlamp bezels on earlier Def's the folding steps are a joke they start rusting within weeks, we are on our second pair of mirror arms, third set of H/L bezels and all the steps replaced. 2.4 90 XS

If out of warranty, these are very cheap to buy anyway. A new mirror and arm assembly can be as cheap as £15 per side.

Roughly the same for a rim rusty headlight, and window catches, after market bumpers, rear folding steps, mudflap brackets etc that can also rust are peanuts so can always buy new if out of warranty and paint or treat it before you put it on Thumbs Up

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and Land Rover has tried just that with the quality on certain items, as they are cr4p. Headlight bezels, sidesteps, front bumper, window hinge blocks, mud flap brackets, OEM A-bar brackets and wing mirror arms to name but a few. In my experience swapping out under warranty is just a 'sticking plaster fix' and the problem will undoubtedly reoccur sooner or later. I have either purchased quality after-market items or had the offending items removed and either chemically cleaned or blasted and a decent powder coating carried out for reasonable cost. (For example only £20 for a steering guard and A-bar brackets). Attention to detail is in my opinion what the Land Rover Quality Department lacks (if indeed there is such a department) and an eagle-eyed owner is much better placed to achieve the required standard of finish expected. For me I feel I am finally getting there after three years of ownership ironing out the minor issues myself. I understand your frustration and your principle but unfortunately unless Land Rover are prepared to invest more time and money producing the quality customers deserve or listening to feedback you end up swapping things out under warranty until it expires, then eventually having to do something about it yourself!
I personally do not have the patience, time or inclination to continually go back and forth to my dealers to have the same things continually exchanged due to inferior finish/quality when it can often be reolved in a single hit for minimum cost! One of the characteristics of owning a Defender I suppose. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
